Wide Awake Bakery is just one part of a collective of friends who work towards providing the community with the best local flour and bread possible, and to promote sustainability in our food systems. Without our partners Oechsner Farms and Farmer Ground Flour, Wide Awake Bakery couldn’t exist.
Oechsner Farms:
Oechsner Farms is a certified organic grain farm in Newfield, New York, and an established leader in the organic grain movement in the Northeast. Founded in 1998 on 44 acres of rented land by Thor Oechsner, the farm steadily grew to 400 acres in 2005, primarily for the organic dairy feed industry. Today, Oechsner Farms manages 1,200 acres, primarily for organic food-grade and craft beverage markets.
Farmer Ground Flour:
Farmer Ground Flour is the shared project of millers Greg Russo and Neal Johnston, and organic farmer Thor Oechsner. Founded in 2009 with 50 tons of local grains, Farmer Ground Flour now mills hundreds of tons a year, provided wonderful flour to Bakeries and Co-ops alike, all over the east coast!
